Graydon Face + Body Travel Essentials | Review + Giveaway!

Graydon Skin Care is a Canadian brand great for label readers like me. The ingredients are natural, nontoxic, cruelty-free, chemical and synthetic free, and organic whenever possible. Each product is made with luxury and pampering in mind. Both the packaging and the product inside are beautiful to use as well as display on your shelves or countertops. These face and body travel essential samples are nothing short of lovely.

Aloe Milk Cleanser

Most of the time I prefer soapless facial cleansers like oils, creams or balms. This Aloe Milk Cleanser is a cream cleanser and makeup remover all in one. It leaves the skin feeling smooth, clean and hydrated.

Elements

This sunscreen is made from zinc rather than chemicals. Not only is your skin protected from the sun’s hot rays, Seabuckthorn oil and aloe juice help to nourish your skin as well. The formula is a slightly thick one. It works well on the body, but it’s not something I would want to wear on my face in the hot weather.

All Over Face + Body Lotion

This lotion smells of lavender and rosemary. Yum! It is very moisturizing, yet light weight. It works well as both a body lotion and a face lotion. I’ve noticed as a face lotion it has a slightly dewy finish. If I were to wear makeup over time I might use a couple extra mattifying products to keep foundation/concealer in place.

<a href="https://graydonskincare.refersion.com/l/b96.74874" target="_blank"><img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/refersion_client/2975/creatives/03-12-15-03-40-03_4.2bannerLavender3.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>

All Over Soap + Shampoo

I decided to try this out as a shampoo. It doesn’t suds up quite as much as I’d like and it leaves almost a waxy feeling when rinsing it out, but when my hair dries it feels really clean, healthy and a bit thicker. I haven’t tried it as a body or face soap yet, but I think it is gentle enough so your skin won’t feel stripped and tight.

Hair Smoothie

This conditioner can be used as a mask, regular conditioner as well as a leave-in conditioner for dry ends. I’ve only tried it as a regular in shower conditioner. It doesn’t feel as creamy as I’d prefer but it detangles really well. After I’ve rinsed it out, my hair feels really soft and manageable.

Each of these 5 products is wonderfully made and very effective. These are ones that I would go for in full size. I would love to share how awesome this brand it with you. Acure Organics Sensitive Facial Cleanser | Review

Acure Organics Sensitive Facial Cleanser | Review

Acure Organics is a great brand to find USDA organic, vegan, sulfate free, paraben free, and cruelty-free body care products for the whole family. They have many ranges for different skin types. From babies to acne prone skin all the way up to aging skin. My skin is hard to figure out. One day it can be oily and spotty, and the next day it could be tight and flaky. I decided to give this Sensitive Facal Cleanser a try.

It’s a gentle cream cleanser for dry and sensitive skin. With oils like argan and coconut, it hydrates while it cleanses. Several fruit and flower extracts help to calm the skin. A gentle lather is created when massaged into damp skin.

I didn’t see any improvement in my acne, but after each use, my skin felt soft, hydrated, and clean. I was glad to find my skin wasn’t made to feel stripped, tight of dry like many sudsy cleansers do.

I look forward to learning more about the many products Acure Organics has to offer. What would you recommend I try next?

Bottega Organica Skin Care | Review

Bottega Organica Skin Care | Review

Bottega Organica is a natural, chemical free skin care brand. The ingredients go straight from their farms in Italy and Upstate New York into the bottle. They offer this wonderful little sample pack for just the cost of shipping. Included in it are an eye serum, cleansing oil, facial oil, facial moisturizer, and a hand cream.

Eye Contour Serum

The texture of this serum is very interesting as far as eye products go. It is very liquidy. I would describe it as watery rather than oily. It has a bit of a learning curve if you are used to creams. It has a faint honey-like scent and is a light brown color.

Cleansing Face Oil

This reminds me a lot of Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques Acne Cleansing Oil. It has the same lemon-thyme scent and moisturizing texture. It feels and smells wonderful on my face!

Morning Face Oil

Just a couple of drops of this ginger-scented oil goes a long way. It is incredibly moisturizing and smells wonderful. I wouldn’t, however, use it under makeup. It’s a very oily oil. I enjoy using it on relaxing, no-makeup days.

Extra-Nourishing Face Formula

This oil based face cream is incredibly hydrating. It’s not something I would use under makeup. But applying this in combination with the Morning Face Oil smells wonderful. The ginger and vanilla scents go together very well!

Comfort Hand Balm

During the dry, colder months powerful hand moisturizers are always great to have on hand (ha). This hand balm is just that. It’s oil based but absorbs into the skin quickly and effectively. According to Bottega Organica’s website, this balm is supposed to be orange scented. To me, it only has a gentle olive oil scent, but it doesn’t linger.

All of these products are a liquidy formula. The eye serum is a watery consistency and the rest are oil based. I wouldn’t use any of these under makeup. For someone with oily skin, I think these will work but I’d be careful with the amount I apply. For dry skin, these oils will be loved by your skin! I have combination skin and my dry, flaky patches drink the oils right up.

Have you tried any products from Bottega Organica? What are your favorites?

-Liz

Note: Thank you to Lin at Bottega Organica for allowing me to try your wonderful products!

Andalou Kombucha Enzyme Exfoliating Peel | Review

Andalou Kombucha Enzyme Exfoliating Peel | Review

Face masks are always a fun way to pamper your skin. I really like using masks from which you can see the results immediately. You can see when clay masks draw out oils. With peel off masks, you can see the gunk that has been pulled out of your pores. When I saw this Kombucha Peel from Andalou Naturals I was very intrigued.

I believe in the be benefits of probiotics. Kombucha is a great probiotic rich drink. When I saw the name of this mask I was very curious about the probiotic factor. I haven’t been able to find much information from Andalou about the reasons behind using kombucha in this mask. Probiotic skincare still sounds really intriguing!

The main focus of the ingredients in this mask are the fruit enzynmes. They are there to dissolve and gently exfoliate dead skin cells and any other gunk in your pores.

It truly is a gentle mask. It is a gel like texture. You apply it, let it dry, then wash it away. It is clear, very light weight and flexible. It’s nothing like a clay mask or a peel off mask. (So in other words, it’s not any fun.)  I imagine this would be great for someone with really sensitive skin. I personly prefer something a bit more rugged. Something that provides grossly satisfying results, and that’s fun to use.

Since I don’t feel excited to use this kombucha mask, I don’t reach for it very often. I imagine, to see real results I’d have to use it frequantly. Because I only reach for it every so often I haven’t seen any improvement in my skin. Although, after removing it each time my skin does feel very soft. So it must be doing its job. You just have to keep up with it.

This gentle exfoliating mask is from the same “Clear Skin” range as the mattifying moisturizer I posted about recently.

I feel sort of neutral about this one. I didn’t love it but I didn’t dislike it. Let me put it this way: I don’t feel like I won’t survive when I run out. I look forward to trying a new mask, but I also would like to try other products from this range.

What kind of face masks do you like? What are your favorites, or do you make your own?

All Good Skin Care | Review

All Good Skin Care | Review

All Good makes wonderful, organic, and natural skin care products. Their products are high quality, effective and safe.

All Good’s Lip Balms are very buttery and hydrating. When applied, it melts right into the skin, getting to work quickly to moisturize dry lips. The two pictured are Original and Spearmint. Both are great, and there are other scents and even tints available.

Coconut Oil Skin Food is versatile and very handy. I’ve used it as a moisturizer, a carrier oil for essential oils, and even an oil cleanser. I really like the few scent options All Good has available. The two I have pictured are plain coconut as well as lemongrass. Lavender is also available. The lemongrass scent is very sweet. For comparison, it is sweeter that Young Living’s lemongrass essential oil.

Progressing through the drier, winter months my skin feels tight and dehydrated. Body lotions are a must have for this time of year. The body lotion from All Good is so creamy and moisturizing. The scents coconut, lavender, and lemongrass are all wonderful. But my favorite is the lavender. It is so sweet and flowery.

Sunscreen is always important to have on hand. This sport sunscreen is a great non-toxic choice. I am going to remember this for when the summer hits and I spend more time in the hot rays.

All Good products are just that…all good. I loved every single one that I tried. I plan to repurchase the body lotion in the lavender scent first. That was my favorite.

Are you familiar with the All Good brand? Do you have any favorites? I’d love to hear them in the comments!

Andalou Naturals Oil Free Clarifying Moisturizer | Review

Andalou Naturals Oil Free Clarifying Moisturizer | Review

Since detoxing my cosmetic and personal care collection, I have had a difficult time finding a good, everyday moisturizer that isn’t too greasy looking. Most natural moisturizing products are oil based, so it makes sense that they would leave your skin looking extra “dewy”. For me, that doesn’t look so great, and it’s even worse under makeup. Andalou Naturals have come up with an oil free moisturizer that is matte and pretty safe to use.

Using the “Build Your Own Report” button on EWG’s skin deep database, I learned that this Acai and White Tea moisturizer has a rating of 3 (1 being safe and 10 being toxic). Andalou’s moisturizer is also non-GMO, gluten free, paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free as well as cruelty-free and vegetarian.

I completely love the way this oil free moisturizer feels on my face. It’s hydrating, light weight and mattifying all at the same time. It works well as both a daytime and a nighttime moisturizer. Because it is mattifying, it’s a dream to use under makeup.

Of course, once you find something you really like the company stops making it! As I was gathering my links to write this post, I couldn’t find this product on Andalou’s website. It turns out they renamed and repackaged their clarifying moisturizer. I’m not sure if they reformulated it as well. All of the information available for the new Acai and Kombucha moisturizer looks really similar to the Acai and White Tea that I love. The URL address even says “White Tea” rather than “Kombucha”. Fingers crossed that it’s still the same!

Do you have any favorites from Andalou? If so, please share your thoughts in the comments.

Portland Bee Balm | Review

Portland Bee Balm | Review

It is the beginning of December. Here in New York, we have had a drop in temperature and have seen a few snow falls. Like many, when the chilly months hit, my skin gets dried out. I especially feel it in my lips. Portland Bee Balm has been a crucial part of both my morning and night time skin care routines.

Portland Bee balm has an amazing texture. It is hydrating without being greasy or slippery. After applying the lip balm my lips feel healthy all day.

I love both the unscented and the mint scented balms. The unscented has a slightly nutty smell to it, but it’s hardly noticeable. The mint smells just like my favorite peppermint tea. A lot of people won’t use lip products with mint because of the cool, tingly feeling it can cause. This mint balm isn’t like that. It has just enough peppermint essential oil in it to give a nice sweet scent, but not enough to irritate the skin.

The ingredients are so simple and clean: bee’s wax, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic extra virgin olive oil, and peppermint oil in the mint balm. All of their ingredients are local to their headquarters in the NorthWestern United States.

Not only is the product incredible, but the packaging that it comes in is beautiful! The plastic tube is wrapped in a thin piece of wood with the Portland Bee Balm logo burned into it. It feels great to hold in your hands and to apply. It’s also wonderful to look at.

I’ve loved using both of these and would repurchase in a heartbeat. If I had to choose my favorite, I would have to go with the mint. But if mint isn’t your cuppa tea (pun intended?), the unscented is beautiful as well.

What is your favorite winter lip care product? Please share in the comments!

MOOM Organic Eyebrow Shaping Kit | Review

MOOM Organic Eyebrow Shaping Kit | Review

I go back and forth between waxing and plucking my eyebrows. Due to my laziness I normally just pluck when I feel my brows have become a bit overgrown. But when I leave them for too long, or I need to clean up the blonde peach fuzz under my brows, MOOM Organic Eyebrow Shaping Kit has been a lifesaver.

A few years ago I picked up my first waking kit at my local Wegman’s. I really liked the silky smooth effect it gave me, but I was uncomfortable microwaving the plastic container, and I always had little bits of blue wax stuck in my eyebrows that were impossible to remove.

Moom’s Shaping Kit is made out of all organic plant-based ingredients and is washable. If you make a mistake applying, you can just wash it away and start over. To warm the “wax” you just let the tube sit in a glass of hot water for a few minutes. The wooden tools make it easy to apply. Both the fabric strips and the wooden application tools can be rinsed off and reused.

I really like how easy this kit is to use, and I love that it has an EWG rating of 1. When I need to, I plan to repurchase this to have on hand.

What are your favorite ways to manage your body hair? Or do you prefer to leave everything as is? I’d love to continue the conversation in the comments!

-Liz

Note: Thank you so much to Moom for your generosity! I really enjoyed reviewing this kit.

The Honest Co. Essentials Bundle Review

The Honest Co. Essentials Bundle Review

I really enjoy Honest Co. product. They have amazing, simple, harmless ingredients. The ingredients that they use are safe for both the planet and its people.

Honest Co. provides several different variations of auto ship subscriptions. This box is the sample version of one. You can order this trial for just the cost of shipping. You are then placed on an auto-ship subscription. Each auto shipment can be changed and edited based on what you need and when.
The Honest Company

In this free sample box, you receive Honest Face + Body Lotion, Honest Hand SoapHonest Shampoo + Body WashHonest Multi-Surface Cleaner, and Honest Healing Balm, all in travel size bottles.

The Honest Face + Body Lotion is incredibly hydrating without being heavy. It works well as both a hand lotion and a facial moisturizer. There are four scents available: apricot kiss, dreamy lavender, fragrance-free, and sweet orange vanilla. Fragrance-free was the scent that was included in this sample bundle.

Honest Hand Soap comes in mandarin, lavender, and lemongrass. Lavender is the scent that was included in this sample pack. It’s not my favorite lavender scent, but it still smells pretty nice. The bubbles that are created are silky and foamy, and my hands weren’t left feeling dried out.

The Shampoo + Body Wash that came in this box was sweet orange vanilla scented. It smells so good! Exactly how it sounds. The shampoo and body wash also comes in apricot kiss and dreamy lavender. This has a similar texture to the hand soap. Light and fluffy, clean but not dehydrated.

The Multi-Surface Cleaner works quite well on many surfaces (surprise surprise!) but I found that it left behind a sudsy, streaky film on mirrors. I’m not a fan of the scent. It has a hint of something like ammonia. I think I will stick with my favorite, Young Living’s Thieves Household Cleaner.

The organic healing balm can be a bit difficult to work with. In warmer weather, it can become a bit runny. The regular consistency is kind of similar to vaseline. It has a pretty nondescript scent, but that makes sense due to what it’s made of. All of the ingredients are organic oils like sunflower, olive, and coconut oils. Once it’s been worked into the skin, it is incredibly hydrating. Having a bottle on hand sounds like a good idea to me! Especially with the cold winter months that are sneaking up on us.

The Honest Company did a great job putting together this little trial package! All of the products are great and I would recommend and repurchase any of them.

What are your favorite Honest Co. products? Continue the conversation in the comments!

Living Libations Blemish Bundle Review

Living Libations Blemish Bundle Review

I first discovered Living Libations in a YouTube video about oil cleansing (Watch it! It’s really good!). As Sarah explained how this cleanser had helped heal her acne I knew I had to give it a try! Browsing Living Libations’ website, reading a few of their articles, I could tell this was a perfect place for me to be shopping. Their philosophies and values for personal care, both for the inside and the outside of our bodies matches up perfectly with mine and I will be very happy to continue being one of their customers.

This skin care bundle contains an oil cleanser, spot treatment, and a washcloth. All of these items are made out of organic products. And that makes me very happy!

The “Seabuckthorn Best Skin Ever” oil cleanser has a very silky, hydrating texture and smells incredible. Grapefruit and lavender essential oils give it an amazingly sweet, citrusy scent while the other oils, like vetiver, give a herbally twist to the scent. The “Best Skin Ever” oil cleanser is my favorite of the trio.

Zippity Dew Dab” is a spot treatment. It’s a blend of some really potent essential oils like carrot seed, blue tansy, and niaouli. Sometimes I’d add one drop to my moisturizer and even in that dilution the smell made my eyes water. Because it smells so strong I don’t use it very often, but when I do, I notice my skin heals a bit quicker.

I really like the “Organic Hemp Cloth“. It’s really gentle and soft, yet exfoliating at the same time. I love the fact that it is an organic fabric! Fancy!

After using this set, my acne hasn’t totally cleared up, but there is a good reason for that. I am dealing with a toxic, leaky gut and for my body, acne is a big side effect of that. I did, however, notice that using these three products encouraged my skin to heal quicker.

In total, I thoroughly enjoyed the Blemish Bundle and would highly recommend it!

Note: Living Libations sent this to me for review. That has had no effect on opinion or review, and I plan to be a continued customer of Living Libations. Thank you so much, Charlotte, for your kindness and generosity!

Goddess Garden Natural Sunscreen | Review

Goddess Garden Natural Sunscreen | Review

Sunscreen is always an important thing to remember. Especially now that it is summertime and things are starting to get pretty hot here in Upstate New York. Being quite fair, I burn very easily if I spend too much time in the sun without any protection.

When my digestive issues were first starting to hit me hard, I was lifeguarding at a local campground’s outdoor pool. I came home several times with sunburns. I quite often forget to apply sunscreen and that’s why I burned. Unfortunately, I was following the TV commercials recommendations and using Neutrogena sunscreen, I was completely unaware of the damage all the chemicals were doing to my body. I now know about the many genetic issues with my detox pathways (MTHFR, etc.) and wish so much that I had a natural sunscreen like Goddess Garden’s when I was working at that pool!

EWG (Environmental Working Group) included Goddess Garden in their 2016 list of non-toxic sunscreens! Both the Everyday and the Sports Sunscreen are rated a 1 out of 10 toxicity level. I use EWG as a resource all the time when shopping for nontoxic items.

Both of these sunscreens are very comfortable to wear. When I applied them, I noticed a faint, “natural” scent, but it was pretty nondescript and faded quickly. I found that they took a little extra effort to rub in all the way. I had a bit of a difficult time getting the white streakiness to massage into my skin, more so with the Sports lotion than the Everyday lotion.

Overall, I really like both of these sunscreens. They come at a pretty reasonable price. The ingredients are wonderful! And they feel nice on the skin.

I recommend Goddess Garden sunscreen to any sunscreen user!

What is your favorite Goddess Garden product?

What is your favorite non-toxic sunscreen?

Please tell me in the comments!

Primal Pit Stick | Review

Primal Pit Stick | Review

One of the first changes I made to detoxify my daily routine was to stop using toxic deodorants. For about a year I used Lavanila Healthy Deodorant. It took me a really long time to get used to it. When I first started using the deodorant I didn’t know my pits would need to go through a detox phase. I couldn’t understand what all the hype was about. The deodorant did not work at all… until I finally realized what was happening and gave it some time. After a few weeks, it started to take effect. I have actually gone through a few sticks of that brand.

One thing that has bugged me about the Lavanila deodorant is that there is no mention of whether any of the ingredients are organic. Lavanila has a lot of corn-derived ingredients. When buying corn (and other food) to eat, you always want to buy it organic because of the GMO’s and pesticides. So if I’m not going to eat GMO, nonorganic corn why would I want to put it on my body?

I do not have to worry about that with Primal Pit Paste deodorant! Almost all of their ingredients are organic and/or non-GMO. They also do not include many ingredients (like corn) that can cause a red flag.

The scent that I am using is “Coconut Lime”. It is AMAZING! I could Eat it! It reminds me of a meringue pie. It is also so appropriate for the summer! There are many other amazing scents at Primal Pit Paste, like Vanilla-Lavender, Orange-Creamsicle, and Thyme-Lemongrass, just to name a few. The deodorants come in either a stick form or in a tub. I personally prefer a stick.

I’ve found that natural deodorants work just as well for me as the big name brand Antiperspirants like Dove, Secret, and Degree. But now I’m not putting a whole bunch of harmful chemicals on my body!

To compare this Primal Pit Paste deodorant to the Lavanila deodorant that I was using previously, I like the Pit Paste a bit more. It is slightly more powerful and is longer lasting. Plus I like the ingredients a lot more.

I highly, highly recommend this deodorant! I love it!

Have you tried Primal Pit Paste before? What scent should I try next?

What is your favorite natural, non-toxic deodorant?

Please tell me in the comments!
