Lemongrass Spas “Sheer Mineral Foundation” | Review

Lemongrass Spas “Sheer Mineral Foundation” | Review

Organic makeup can be hard to find at an affordable price. Luckily, Lemongrass Spa is here to cover both of those bases.

Their Sheer Minerals Powder Foundation comes in many great shades, offering medium, yet buildable coverage without any harmful, or unnecessary ingredients.

I have a hard time finding a powder foundation that doesn’t look cakey. Generally, I look for something that can mattify any shiny areas without clinging to dry patches. This foundation ticks both of those boxes while also diffusing acne marks and uneven skin tones, and still looking natural.

My first peek at Lemongrass Spa’s makeup line has gone well and I look forward to trying more products. Do you recommend any? Tell me about your favorite Lemongrass Spa products in the comments below.

Juice Beauty Refining Organic Finishing Powder | Review

Cakey skin is not fun. Almost every powder I’ve tried has caused my face to look like that. Juice Beauty’s Refining Finishing Powder does not look cakey or scaly at all.

After applying foundation and/or concealer I like to use a big fluffy brush like Real Techniques Blush Brush to dust the finishing powder over my skin. It helps set my makeup and keep it in place for the day. Because this is a finishing powder, there is not any coverage to speak of. Since it is also mattifying, it could be worn on bare skin to reduce any shiny spots.

Most of the ingredients are certified organic. They are plant-derived with many benefits such as antiaging and antibacterial. EWG Skin Deep Database rates it at a 2 out of 10 (10 being toxic).

I really like this powder and would repurchase it. It works really well for my wacky, spotty, oily yet dry and flaky at the same time skin.

Do you have any must-have products from Juice beauty? I would love to try more of their products. Please share your favorites in the comments!

Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques Foundation | Review

Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques Foundation | Review

Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques is a great company for natural and organic makeup and skin care. I have reviewed and enjoyed several of their products in the past (eye products and facial cleanser). This trio of a foundation, concealer, and powder work very well together. An amazing option that they offer at Lauren Brooke it the ease of buying samples of nearly every product they sell. (That is what I have pictured on this post.) The samples are filled with plenty of products to get a feel for what formula you might like and what color works best.

The Cream Foundation comes in many shades and tones but seems to be slightly catered to fairer complexions. It has a buttery smooth texture that blends nicely. A dewy finish is left. To mattify that, I like to use Lauren Brook’s Finishing Powder. It leaves my skin just matte enough without getting to scally or cakey looking.

When needed the Cream Concealer covers spots and redness very well. For undereye darkness, I was pleasantly surprised by the Luminous Eyes Corrective Concealer. I’d never used a color correcting concealer before. The finishing powder sets both of these concealers just as well as the foundation.

Each of these is made with 100% natural vitamins, minerals, and pigments, as well as 97% to 100% certified organic botanical bases.

I wouldn’t recommend the cream products to someone with overly oily skin, but I would recommend the powder to someone with dryer skin, struggling to find a good one.

I look forward to purchasing full sizes of all of these. They would be a great addition to a winter makeup routine!

What are you favorite natural foundations/concealers/powders? I’d love to learn about them in the comments!

Thank you to Chris at Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques for being so wonderful! I enjoyed sampling these.

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation and Concealer | Review

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation and Concealer | Review

I am always on the lookout for a foundation that works really well for me. My skin gets flaky quickly and it also can get oily easily, so I have a hard time finding a foundation that works well.

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation is a pretty good one! It is not very heavy and has pretty good pigmentation. It can be worn sheer or easily built up to medium/full coverage. It blends in really well. My favorite way to apply it is with a damp makeup sponge. I really like the idea of the “Better Skin” ingredients. I can’t say if it really works or not. I haven’t really tested it out the way Maybelline says to. They say to use it every day for a couple of weeks to begin to see the benefits. I definitely don’t wear makeup ever single day! And when I do wear it, I like to use different products each time.

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Concealer + Corrector is also a great product! I really like this under my eyes. It also works pretty well at covering blemishes. I like to apply this with a damp sponge, or my fingers if I am feeling lazy. It blends really well and is light weight!

One thing I noticed about this line is the shades don’t really match up between the foundation and concealer. I have the lightest shades available. Both are the color number “10” but the foundation is called “Porcelain” and the concealer is called “Ivory”. The concealer is a little bit darker and a bit more pink than the foundation.  …strange!

Have you tried this combo? How do you like it?

I really like it and recommend it!

What is your favorite Maybelline product? I would love to hear in the comments!

Stila’s Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector | Review

Stila’s Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector | Review

Stila’s Perfectly Poreless Putty Perfector is a really strange and interesting product. It is a foundation with a formula that is a mix between a powder and a play dough texture. It feels powdery when you touch it and apply it, but it is putty-like and moves around a little within the pan. I first learned about it from CoffeeBreakwithDani’s video on it. She absolutely loves it so I had to try it out for myself! She and I have different skin types, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

When I put it on the first time I used the sponge that came with it. I was really impressed with how well it covered my acne and darkness under my eyes. I didn’t need any extra coverage to conceal anything anywhere! One thing that I didn’t like was when I looked closely in the mirror it looked cakey and flaky. I have that problem a lot with most foundations.

I decided to try it out with a buffing brush and that was a little better. Sometimes brushes can pull at my skin and make it flake even more. I also tried spot concealing with this with a small brush and that worked well.

I also used a damp blending sponge with this and liked that the best. It doesn’t cake the makeup on like the sponge that comes with it does, but it still provides a good amount of coverage.

I would recommend this for normal to slightly oily skin. My skin is on the dry and sensitive side. I do like the coverage that this gives and how light weight it is. But the way it looks on my skin isn’t the best. I know this works well for a lot of people, though!

Have you used this Putty Perfector? How do you like it? Please tell me in the comments!

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream | Review

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream | Review

Lately, my skin has been flaky in many places. A lot of it is from acne and some of it is because of the weird New York weather. I tend to gravitate towards matte foundations because my skin’s version of a dewy look is normally a sweaty look. But matte foundations look terrible over flaky skin! bareMinerals ‘Complexion Rescue’ Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream is awesome! I had heard a few things about it that I really liked before I bought it. It is formulated different from any other “foundation” type of product, so your skin gets a lot out of it. This YouTube video really made an impression on me. Niomi explains this product really well, and how it is so different from anything else.

It sits really well on the skin. It doesn’t feel sticky or heavy. It blends in really well, and I normally have the worst time blending products like this in! If you are looking for full coverage, this is not for you. This just provides a sheer wash of color to even out your skin tone. I do use a concealer on top of it, where I need to. I wouldn’t recommend using a primer under it. It does not need it, and I would think that the primer would block some of the benefits.

bareMinerals Smoothing Face Brush was made specifically for this tinted moisturizer. I did not buy it. For a brush, it was a little too pricy. I find that this tinted moisturizer clings to my brushes, and is hard to wash off. I feel like I am wasting a bunch of product that way. For me, just blending it in with my fingers works the best!

Have you tried the Complexion Rescue? What about the Smoothing Face Brush? Do you like them? Please tell me in the comments!

E.L.F. Moisturizing Foundation Stick | Review

E.L.F. Moisturizing Foundation Stick | Review

I have a hard time finding foundations that I actually like. I don’t want to feel like I’m wearing it and I don’t want to look like I’m wearing it. I have trouble getting foundations to blend in properly. They cling to dry patches or little hairs all the time and look cakey. I get brush lines easily too. This foundation is so easy to apply. It blends quickly and easily with either a brush or sponge. There are never any brush lines or flaky patches! It feels like my skin… not sticky or heavy! I like to wear it as a light to medium coverage but it isn’t very difficult to build it up to a fuller coverage. I think this would work best for people with normal to dry skin, but people who are on the oily side of normal could make this work nicely, as well. It has a natural finish that could easily be made matte or dewy depending on what products you use underneath and overtop. I like to use a buffing brush like the e.l.f. Studio Ultimate Blending Brush or the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. I highly recommend e.l.f. Studio Moisturizing Foundation Stick Ivory! It is definitely worth the $6!

Have you used this before? How do you like it? What is your favorite e.l.f. product? Please tell me blow in the comments!
