Vapour Illusionist Concealer

Vapour Illusionist Concealer

Vapour Organic Beauty is a higher end brand focused on simple, beautiful, and high-quality makeup products. No chemicals or synthetic ingredients are used. Their products are made with 100% natural, 70% organic and 30% mineral ingredients.

Ingredients

Organic Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Organic Cera Alba (Beeswax) Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil Silica Mica Tocopherol (Non GMO Vitamin E – Soy) Solanum Lycopersicon (Tomato) Fruit/Leaf/Stem Extract Wildcrafted Commiphora Myrrha (Myrrh) Gum Oil Canarium Luzonicum (Elemi) Gum Nonvolatiles Wildcrafted Boswellia Carteri (Frankincense) Gum Organic Ocimum Sanctum (Tulsi/Holy Basil) Leaf Extract Organic Nelumbo Nucifera (Lotus) Leaf Extract Pogostemon Cablin Oil [+/-: Titanium Dioxide (CI77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499)]

Personally, I don’t like the feeling of a lot of face makeup. Most days I’ll dab on a bit of concealer where ever it’s needed and set it with a light powder. Vapour’s Illusionist Concealer is so creamy and blendable. Being in a twist tube makes it so easy to apply. Just swipe it on and blend it out. My skin gets oily throughout the day so setting this concealer with powder helps a lot to keep it in place.

They have a great range of colors fair to dark. I submitted a selfie to Vapour’s free shade consultation page. The feedback was for me to try the shade 015. It just barely works for my skin. I think next time I order an item of face makeup from Vapour I’m going to go down a shade.

I am really happy with this concealer. It’s not heavy and it applies like a dream. What are your favorite organic/non-toxic concealers? Have you ever tried Vapour? If so, what do you love most from them? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Mother Dirt Probiotic Skin and Hair Care | Review

Mother Dirt Probiotic Skin and Hair Care | Review

Probiotics are becoming more and more popular in diet and health practices. Recently brands have been adding probiotics to their beauty products. Mother Dirt was created with the intent of keeping your external microbiome happy and healthy. There are four products available for skin and hair care: a probiotic mist, a shampoo, a foam cleanser, and an oil moisturizer. They come in bottles that are TSA approved so you can easily pack it in a carry on case for a flight. Even though the packages are small, a surprising amount of product is jammed in there. Each bottle lasted a lot longer than I anticipated.

All of the products are unscented, are hypoallergenic, and score very well by the Environmental Working Group.

The shampoo is very gentle… almost too gentle. It felt great when using it but my hair became greasy quickly throughout the day. I could not skip a day of washing my hair. I missed having a (naturally) scented shampoo. Mother Dirt doesn’t sell a conditioner to go along with their shampoo. On their website, it says a lot of people didn’t need one. My rat’s nest was still in desperate needed one so I chose The Honest Co. Conditioner.

The foam cleanser can be used for the face and body. It is so gentle, yet very effective. My skin didn’t feel stripped after cleansing, but it still removed my makeup. It even did a decent job taking off waterproof mascara! But again, I missed a pretty scent.

The moisturizer had a strange texture. It didn’t feel oily or greasy. It had more of a slippery texture, almost silicone like. The packaging for this one needs some work. It leaked a lot and often the oil would splatter or squirt when I would pump it out of the bottle.

AO+ Mist is a live probiotic spray. You can mist it anywhere on your body to replenish good bacteria. This mist is perfect… not so heavy that it leaves large droplets, but not so fine that you have to spray it a thousand times before you feel anything.

All in all, I wasn’t as impressed as I’d hoped to be. Even though the mist is slightly pricier than I’d prefer, I really liked the texture so I would repurchase it. I also liked the gentle cleanser and might pick that one up again. The oil cleanser and shampoo didn’t wow me. However, I am glad I tried Mother Dirt. My eyes were opened to this trend. I look forward to seeing what the natural beauty community comes up with next using pro and prebiotics.

What are your favorite good bug supporting products? Please share with everyone in the comments!

Why You Will Love Zoya

Why You Will Love Zoya

Pictured above from 2016-17 Holiday Mystery Box:

Nail polish on the left: Naked Manicure base and top coat, along with the lavender perfector.

Middle of the top row: Remove Plus Nail polish remover, and two Lipsticks in the shades Paisley and Jasmine.

Nail polish on the right: Alicia, Debbie, and Olivera.

Bottom row: Qtica Solid Gold Cuticle Oil Gel, Qtica Intense Lip Therapy Balm.

Art of Beauty is the parent brand of Qtica, Naked Manicure, Smart Spa, and Zoya. Each is focused on providing the beauty world with beautiful, quality products that are safe for us to use and safe for the rest of the planet as well. My focus here today is on their nail polishes from Zoya.

The nail polishes are 10 free (free of formaldehydeformaldehyde resin, dibutyl phthalate, toluene, camphor, TPHP, parabens, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, and lead) and have very very short ingredients lists. They are also scored well by EWG.

More often than not nail polish last for two days maximum on my nails – the full procedure… base coat, top coat… the whole shebang – before is chips or peels off. I can get almost a whole week out of a manicure using Zoya polishes! For base and top coats, I switch back and forth between their Anchor and Armor, and the Naked Manicure base and top coats. I don’t notice much of a difference between them as far as effectiveness. Naked Manicure has added ingredients for nail strengthening.

One of my favorite thing about shopping on their website is their opacity rating. Each nail polish is scored 1 to 5 (1 being sheer and 5 being opaque). It makes it so much easier to be sure you know what you’re ordering. I prefer to purchase polishes scored at a 5. That way I know it won’t be streaky.

The best part is all of the beautiful colors! They add a new range of colors seasonally to their collection of 300+. Zoya never fails at providing the most beautiful shades. If you only wear certain shades or tones you can filter your search on their website to find what you love the most.

$10 a bottle can add up pretty quickly. Several times a year Zoya has BOGO sales that offer you 25 to 50% off your order. I always make my purchases during these sale periods. One of their handful of sales celebrates Earth Day. If you have nail polish that you want to toss, it can be mailed to Zoya to be disposed of safely as toxic waste.

I can’t think of a single reason not to love Zoya. The products they make are high quality, beautiful, effective, and long lasting. They are an environmentally conscious and health conscious company, and you can always get a great discount if you shop the sales.

I’d love to know what are your favorite shades/products from Zoya, and what other non-toxic nail brands do you love? Let me know in the comments!

Liz 🙂

The Honest Co. Shampoo + Body Wash & Conditioner | Review

The Honest Co. Shampoo + Body Wash & Conditioner | Review

The Honest Company is one of my favorite affordable go-to brands for personal care and home care products. I’ve gone through a few bottles of the Honest Shampoo + Body Wash and the Honest Conditioner. They both come in three beautiful scents: Sweet Orange Vanilla, Dreamy Lavender, and Apricot Kiss (Unscented has JUST been released as well). For under ten bucks a bottle, and great ingredients you really can’t go wrong.

EWG gives a rating of 1 (1 being nontoxic and 10 being toxic) to the shampoo and a rating of 2 to the conditioner.

The shampoo lathers and suds wonderfully. The conditioner is creamy and moisturizing without being heavy of leaving a residue. (It also works great for shaving!) Both working together leaves my hair clean and soft for the day. A lot of the time I struggled to get two days of clean hair from this duo. If you prefer to wash daily anyways, then that’s ok.

I love the design of the packaging. Not only are the graphics cute, but I love the pump on the bottle as well. It makes it easier to get a controlled, consistent amount out.

Do you have a favorite non-toxic hair care products? What should I try next?

W3ll People Expressionist Mascara | Review

W3ll People Expressionist Mascara | Review

W3ll People is an all natural brand. They focus on providing products safe for both our planet and us, to create “no-makeup” makeup looks. One of my top beauty must haves is mascara. I am rather picky about the durability of my mascara. It needs to be super rugged and long lasting. If it is anything less, it ends up on my under eyes, causing me to look like a raccoon that was in a fist fight. I generally go for waterproof mascara, but I have found it nearly impossible to find a waterproof mascara with clean ingredients.

The Expressionist Mascara has a great formula, not too wet, not too dry. It’s easy to build up length and volume. And the staying power is pretty good. There is minimal transfer to my under eyes – I do recommend setting your under-eye area with a powder. At the end of the day, it’s not a struggle to remove. When shopping around, I was under the impression that this mascara was waterproof or water resistant – I can’t remember which – but I can’t find that info anywhere now. It does a decent job holding up to “water resistant” standards! As far a clean mascaras go, this one is a winner (and EWG verified)!

Ingredients

“Aqua (Water), Cera Alba (Beeswax)*,C10-18 Tryglycerides, Stearic Acid, Copernica Cerifera Cera / Copernicia Cerifera Cera (Canuba) Wax*, Castor Isostearate Beeswax Succinate, Glyceryl Stearate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glycerin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Benzoate, Xanthum Gum, Cellulose, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil / Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil [+/-Cl 77891 Titanium Dioxide, Cl 77491 and Cl 77499 Iron Oxides, Cl 77007 Ultramarines, Cl 74570 Carmine] *Ingredient from Organic Farming” – w3llpeople.com

What are your favorite clean mascaras?

Moom Organic Hair Removal | Review

Moom Organic Hair Removal | Review

I can’t be the only one getting excited about summer. I have already bought a few new swimsuits, and I have been dreaming about my paddleboard for a couple of weeks.

As summer approaches, getting beach ready is something that many of us start to think about. Fitness routines are added or improved, and skin is looked after a bit more. Smooth legs are a must for me during the summer. Many ladies prefer to wax for the longer lasting results and less maintenance.

Many waxes contain nasty chemicals and synthetics which are toxic to many parts of our bodies, as well as the planet. Parabens are endocrine disruptors and have negative effects on our hormones and reproductive systems. They can also affect one’s allergies. Many conventional waxes contain synthetic fragrances as well. They are just as costly to our organs and Earth.

Moom “Wax” is made from just a couple of organic plant based ingredients, and that’s it. No mile long list of dangerous things that you can’t pronounce, and you will be glad to know that their products are just as effective as the chemicals!

Most of Moom’s hair removers have the same main ingredient, organic cane sugar. Other plant extracts or essential oils are added for specific skin types or areas being treated. Chamomile, lavender, and cucumber have been added to some waxes for their calming effects.

MOOM Organic Hair Removal kit with Tea Tree (Classic)

This classic wax is suitable for all skin types and can be used on the whole body. It comes with wooden applicators and many fabric removal strips in different sizes. All are washable and reusable.

Ingredients:

Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Chamomile Tea, Organic Lemon Juice, And Organic Tea Tree Oil

MOOM Organic Hair Removal Face/Travel Kit

This travel kit is quite a bit smaller than the Classic, above, but it is very similar and works just as well. There is a slight alteration in the ingredients for delicate facial skin but also works wonderfully on the rest of the body. It comes with a good number of reusable removal strips and wooden applicators.

Ingredients:

Organic Cane Sugar, Organic Chamomile Tea, Organic Lemon Juice, Organic Tea Tree Oil, and Organic Aloe Vera

For me, waxing isn’t my first choice of hair removal. I find it very itchy and uncomfortable to let my hair grow to the required waxing length. But on the odd occasion when I do feel like having a spa day and breaking out a wax kit, I’m glad I have Moom’s “wax”. I think My favorite thing about their hair removers is that they are washable. If you mess up when applying the remover you can just wash it away!

What are your favorite, most effective hair removal methods? Do you prefer to do it yourself or do you treat yourself to a spa trip?

Graydon Discovery Kit | Review + Giveaway

Graydon Discovery Kit | Review + Giveaway

Graydon, a plant powered skincare line, has many wonderful, and effective products made from natural and organic ingredients. Like many of the kits they have offered, this discovery kit is an awesome way to be introduced to the brand.

Face Food Mineral Mist

I love facial mists. They leave the skin feeling cool, and fresh, with an extra boost of moisture. Graydon’s facial mist did not disappoint. The many minerals help to calm skin allergies, kill bacteria, produce collagen and reduce inflammation. It compliments any moisturizing routine and can help to reduce an over-powdered appearance after applying makeup.

Ingredients List

Ingredients: aqua (purified water), magnesium chloride, copper chloride, silver angstrom, zinc chloride

Detox + Renew Serum

This serum has an interesting smell. Something like wild weeds, grass, and turmeric. The texture is really nice. It hydrates and sinks into the skin well without leaving behind an oily residue. With a lot of nourishing and anti-inflammatory ingredients, this is a really nice serum to use.

Ingredients List

Ingredients: meadowfoam (limnanthes alba) seed oil, oat (avena sativa kernel) oil, camelia (camellia sinensis) seed oil, blueberry (vaccinum myrtillus) seed oil, cranberry (vaccinum macrocarpon) seed oil, raspberry (rubus idaeus) seed oil, saffron stem cell (crocus sativus flower extract & cell culture extract), turmeric (curcuma longa) oil, neroli (citrus aurantium amara), vitamin e (mixed tocopherols) oil, and nothing else!

Superfood Mask + Scrub

I feeling like I now understand why Ostriches stick their heads in the sand. They must love the exfoliation! ? This mask feels a bit like I’m rubbing a beach all over my face…but in a good way. At first, I was a little surprised at how abrasive it can be, but it’s worth it.

The mask needs to be mixed with a liquid. Graydon suggests a creme cleanser or anything from your kitchen. I decided to take a little creative liberty and use a facial oil. One capsule and about 10 drops of oil mixed, scrubbed into the skin, let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes, then scrub away with a wet washcloth. Wow! I felt like I had a new face. My skin was so soft. For a couple of days after I felt like my skin looked more radiant and healthy. This is something I could easily use a couple times a week.

Ingredients List

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Zeolite (clinootilolite zeolite), White Willow Bark (salix babylonica), Matcha Green Tea (camellia sinensis), Chia Seed (salvia hispanica L), Probiotic blend, Shiitake Mushroom (lentinula edodes), Cinnamon (cinnamomum cassia presl.), Vitamin C (magnesium ascorbate), Green Coffee Bean (coffea arabica), Zinc (citrate), Aloe Vera (aloe barbadensis leaf), Licorice Root (glycyrrhiza glabra), Papaya (carica papayal.), Coconut Water (cocos nucifera l.), Activated Charcoal, Astaxanthin (from red algae), Micro Fermented Hyaluronic Acid (sodium hyaluronate), Vitamin D2, Xylitol, and nothing else!

Green Cream

It’s not really green. Maybe the smallest hint of a sage color. But the ingredients are green. With tons of green vegetables and herbs in this moisturizer, your skin gets all of the superfood benefits imaginable: detoxification, nourishment, inflammation reduction, and antioxidants.

Germs Away AromaBlend

I love germ-killing essential oil blends. My favorite is Young Living’s Thieves. Graydon’s Germs Away blend appears to be a mixture of Young Living’s Thieves and Purification and then some. For me, the lemongrass was the most powerful scent.

Ingredient List

Ingredients: cinnamomum cassia (cinnamon) leaf oil, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus) leaf oil, pelargonium graveolens flower (geranium) oil, juniperus communis fruit (juniper) oil, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil, citrus limon (lemon) peel oil, cymbopogon schoenanthus (lemongrass) oil, myristica fragrans (nutmeg) kernel oil, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) peel oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil.

I enjoyed each and every one of these products. The skincare products really made a positive impact on my skin (as long as I didn’t pick at my acne). I think my favorite item from this kit was the Mask/Scrub. Do any of these products appeal to you? If you’d like to try them, fill out the raffle form below to be entered to win this kit!

The Honest Co. Conditioning Detangler | Review

The Honest Co. Conditioning Detangler | Review

The Honest Company has many great products for home and personal care. The brand only uses ingredients that are safe for ourselves and our planet. For me, most of their products have been great hits. Very few have disappointed. This conditioning detangler lands kind of in the middle.

To start, the sweet orange vanilla scent is amazing! I love both citrus and vanilla scents, so putting them together is brilliant. The detangling power is okay. It’s not as effective as my blonde rat’s nest needs, but I do notice a difference if I don’t use it. After showering, giving my hair a few spritz with the detangler. I let it sit in my hair while I apply my body lotion and get dressed. After letting the detangler sit for a couple minutes, running my tangle teezer through my hair gets the job done. It’s not as smooth to brush through as I’d like, but it’s not nearly as knotty and painful as it would be without the detangler. I’ve found the key is to let the detangler soak in. Brushing right after spritzing the detangler is just like brushing without it.

Would I buy this again? Probably. Compared to a lot of other natural hair care products it’s pretty good value for money.

What are some safe hair products that you reach for daily?

Zoya Naked Manicure Mini Pro Kit | Review

Zoya Naked Manicure Mini Pro Kit | Review

Zoya, my favorite nail brand sells more than just pretty colors. They have a line just for those who prefer a natural manicure. The Naked Manicure line corrects and improves the color of your nails, and with regular use can actually improve the health of your nails.

I generally prefer pretty colors on my nails, so I didn’t see myself being a regular user of this line. I decided to get the half size bottles rather than the full size. Who actually goes through a full bottle of nail polish anyway. With the Mini Pro Kit, you get the whole collection in smaller bottles for a price that is a bit easier to chew on.

Even though I only reach for this every so often, it’s something I’m really glad to have. I do often use the base and top coats with regular nail polish and they work just as well as Zoya’s regular base and top coats.

The range of nude tints gives you the freedom to create any “correction” you’d like. The purple cancels out yellow spots and the nude colors are used to brighten, cool, or warm the hue of your natural nail color. Any of the five tints can be used individually or layered to create your desired look.

The white tip perfector is just what it sounds like. It creates a healthy looking french tip without looking fake and chunky like acrylic nails. Instead, the sheer wash of white leaves your nails looking healthy.

The naked manicure polishes can be bought individually as well as in kits. Zoya has a couple of smaller kits of just three or four bottles. One marketed for women and even one marketed for men. Personally, I think it’s great that they’ve created a product for men.

In the comments I’d love to know, do you prefer natural nails or colorful nails?

100% Pure Let it Glow Kit | Review

100% Pure Let it Glow Kit | Review

100% Pure is a brand that I have admired for a long time. They manage to create products that are beautiful, high quality, and trendy while keeping their ingredients safe and friendly for both the body and the planet.

This kit from the holiday season came with 3 full-size products that will work well for the rest of the year to come.

Each and every one of 100% Pure’s palettes is to die for. With highly pigmented, buttery, feminine eyeshadows, blushes, and highlighters, you can create many stunning looks. This trio gift set came with the Fruit Pigmented Pretty Naked Palette II. The rosy mauve blush blends into the skin creating a pink glow. Adding the pink-gold highlighter to all of the high points of your face gives a wonderful iridescent shimmer. The three eyeshadows, light neutral bronze, dark taupe, and a brown plumb work together to create a soft smoky eye. Or you can use one or both of the lighter shades to create a neutral look. The plumb shadow would make a unique eyeliner shade as well!

The Maracuja Mascara in the color Black Tea is a great mascara. It gives your lashes a long, voluminous look. The only drawback for me is that it’s not waterproof or water resistant. However, none of the ingredients are synthetic. Most are organic. It is colored with dark plants such as tea, dark berries and even coffee and cocoa beans! You can tell by its fruity, nutty smell. There are also many conditioning ingredients such as the maracuja oil, vitamin B5, aloe, and seaweed.

Before adding any powders, the Luminating Créme in the shade Starlight leaves a delicate champagne glow to the high points of the face. It is beautiful on its own, but it’s also complemented very well by the highlighter in the Naked II palette.

Any one of these three products is a great buy. They work well separately and together. All are made with earth-derived ingredients that are kind to our bodies and are kind when we wash them away at the end of the day.

What are you must haves from 100% Pure? What do I need to try next?

Andalou Clarifying Kit | Review

Andalou Clarifying Kit | Review

Andalou Naturals is a great brand to finds a wide range of natural skin, body and hair care products for the whole family and all skin types. I have reviewed a couple full sized products for this kit recently. They can be found here and here.

This particular range is created for oily, problematic skin. There are also many ingredients for anti-aging and firming. Kombucha is added as well, though it is not clear which strains of probiotics are in the kombucha, or how long the probiotics are active for. To try out the five main products from the clear skin line, Andalou has put together this travel size tester kit.

The cleansing gel bubbles up nicely, and washes away excess oils, but does so without leaving the skin ridiculously tight and bone dry.

The pore minimizing toner has a cooling effect. It smells of mint but the herbs take down the punch that peppermint can have.

A couple of times a week using the exfoliating mask helps to gently exfoliate the skin without using any abrasive ingredients.

The oil-free moisturizer hydrates and stays matte at the same time. I prefer to use it in the morning. Because it has a matte finish it works well under makeup.

The recovery cream is best to be used in at the end of your evening routine. It is slightly thicker and leaves somewhat of a dewy effect. It is very moisturizing without being heavy.

Except for the toner, all of these products have an herby-citrus scent. I’ve really liked all five of these products but my favorites are the oil-free moisturizer and the toner.

For me, these products haven’t completely eliminated my acne, but my spots heal quickly. I have the best results when I quit fussing with and picking at my acne. Just leaving my skin alone and letting these gentle products do their work has helped my skin stay a little clearer.

Do you have any favorite Andalou products? Which acne remedies have worked well for you? Share in the comments!

I have a skin and hair care giveaway going on for about another week here. If you haven’t yet, please enter!
